Free Loft Insulation in Scotland

The ECO3 scheme’s purpose is to reduce carbon emissions and deal fuel poverty by providing funding for loft and cavity wall insulation to struggling households all over Scotland and the UK. Homeowners, landlords and private tenants receiving a wide range of benefits and tax credits (including child benefits) are eligible for the scheme, with 100% funding available to help make your home more energy efficient at no cost.

What is loft insulation?

Did you know that around 25% of all heat escapes through the roof of your home? That’s a lot of wasted heat, meaning you’re spending much more on energy than you actually need to!

Loft insulation works by reducing the amount of heat that is lost through your roof space, thereby lowering the amount of fuel you need to use to heat your property. Special insulating material is placed between the joints in the roof, making it more difficult for heat to escape and traps it inside the rooms below the loft. In a lot of cases, insulation material is also placed over roof joints and around the loft hatch to stop even more heat from being lost.

Although there’s a good chance that your loft or attic already has some insulation, only a 3rd of homes in Scotland have adequate insulation that meets or exceeds the recommended depth of 270mm.
