Originally set up in 2013, the ECO grant scheme provides access to insulation funding for low-income households. Grants are funded by the ‘Big Six’ energy companies (British Gas, Scottish Power, SSE, E.ON, EDF Energy and Npower), who are under an obligation to help reduce emission levels and allow people improve the efficiency of their homes. Under the scheme, you could get FREE cavity wall and loft insulation, with 100% funding available.

In 2018, the scheme was upgraded to ECO 3, with substantially increased funding and an expanded eligibility criteria. This means that many people who were previously ineligible for funding can now take advantage of the scheme. Can I get a grant for insulation?

The scheme is available to people who are receiving specific benefits and tax credits, no matter where you live in Scotland or which energy supplier you are currently using. To be eligible for funding, you must be in receipt of at least one qualifying benefit:

There are also a few other terms and conditions. If you live in a rented property, it must have an EPC rating of A, B, C, D or E – and you must get permission from your landlord. In addition, certain homes are ineligible for insulation grants, including stone-built properties constructed more than 25 years ago, and houses built after 1982, which will already be insulated.

How much could I save on my energy bills?
